At Somerset Medical Center, a child is a precious patient. That’s why our Pediatric Unit is a special place providing care, reassurance, support, comfort and encouragement to infants, children and adolescents and their families.

The Pediatric Unit strives to meet the needs of the family by providing:
- 24-hour visitation for parents and flexible hours for other family members
- Guest trays available for every meal
- Sleeper chairs for parent overnight stays
- Use of showers
- Use of the kitchen
- A play room with a large tank of tropical fish and toys, games, books and videotapes appropriate for all ages
- Free television
Qualified Staff
Every nurse in our Pediatric Unit is a registered professional with experience and specialized education in the care of newborn, child and adolescent patients. Our nurses can offer you a wealth of advice and assistance during your child’s hospitalization.
In addition your child’s physician, other pediatric specialists may care for your child depending on their needs. For example, if surgery is necessary, our board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist will carefully explain the procedures with you and your child.
For children under 18 years of age who need specialized care, Somerset Medical Center has board-certified pediatric cardiologists on staff as well as several board-certified pediatric neurologists. In addition, new parents may need the special expertise provided by our neonatologists, who are board-certified specialists in the care of high-risk infants.
Tours
Before hospitalization for non-emergency admissions, a hospital tour can be scheduled to answer questions and alleviate any concerns of the child and the family.
