Having Your Baby at Somerset Medical Center
To speed admission to Somerset Medical Center, it is helpful to submit to the medical center a pre-registration form with all of your pertinent information. You may request a form from your doctor, or you may complete one on our Web site at somersetmedicalcenter.com/register. Please note that you still will be required to show your insurance information upon every admission to the medical center.
Caring Specialists with Advanced Expertise
When moms-to-be arrive in the Baby Suites, they are welcomed by a staff ready to provide the reassurance and support women need as they prepare for their baby’s birth.
You’ll see how your care provider and nurse work together as a team to assist you throughout the birthing experience. You also have the assurance of knowing that board-certified obstetricians, neonatologists (pediatricians specializing in newborn care) and anesthesiologists are available at the medical center 24 hours a day - a standard that sets us apart from other hospitals. Our Nursery is certified to provide Level II intermediate neonatal care, recognizing our state-of-the-art technology and capability to diagnose and treat selected high-risk pregnancies and neonatal issues. However, should your baby need more specialized care, our staff is trained to stabilize infants and expedite a transfer to a Level III perinatal center.
All of the nurses who provide maternal-newborn care have received specialized training. The expertise of these medical professionals means that Somerset Medical Center can provide the special care that may sometimes be necessary after high-risk or complicated deliveries. Our staff is a wonderful resource, and we encourage every family to turn to our experts with any concerns or questions they may have during their stay.
Personalized Care Makes the Difference
There is no better expression of our commitment to each family’s individual needs and personal choices than mother/baby care, where one nurse cares for both mother and baby. The nurse understands not only the individual needs of the mother and baby, but their needs in relation to each other.
With mother/baby care, choices are encouraged. You and members of your family have a greater opportunity to ask questions and resolve concerns about newborn care. And the pace is less rushed, with time for the mother to learn by doing, with her nurse at her side. Your nurse is available to answer all of your questions and help your family learn and practice newborn care skills so you can return home with confidence. We urge you to take advantage of the experience and knowledge of our staff.
We take pride in the personal attention and individuality that is the hallmark of the maternity experience at Somerset Medical Center. The medical center has been providing health care since 1901, and of all the medical specialties represented at our hospital, none is more joyous than maternity and newborn care. We take this special responsibility seriously, as evidenced by the state-of-the-art Level II care we are certified to provide and the advanced training of our staff. We never forget that we are privileged to be part of the wonder of birth. And we would be delighted to share the joy of the birth of your baby.
Baby Care Education
Because of the personalized care provided by maternity nurses at Somerset Medical Center, parents have many opportunities to ask questions and resolve concerns about newborn care before discharge. Our patients “learn by doing” under the expert guidance and encouragement of our maternity nurses, including how to bathe a baby and learning the “bottom line” on diapering the way the pros do it.
