Through its Ryan White Title I Grant, Somerset Medical Center’s Ryan White Clinic provides primary medical care and case management to adults with HIV or AIDS, regardless of financial eligibility. The grant is named for an HIV-positive teenager from Indiana who made headlines with his brave fight against ignorance and prejudice while dealing with the illness.
Medical care at the clinic is provided by infectious disease physicians and a nurse practitioner. A case manager is also available to:
- provide support for social issues
- provide initial and ongoing needs assessment
- assist in enrollment in social services for housing, food vouchers and emergency money for utilities
- arrange for dental appointments
Medical transportation is provided for clinic visits, support group meetings and to other health care providers.
A support group for those with HIV or AIDS is offered at the medical center the first and third Thursdays of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. The clinic also recently launched a Discordant Couples Support Group for couples with only one HIV-positive member. The group meets the last Thursday of the month and covers topics such as intimacy and family planning.
Clinic hours are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
