To meet the community's growing health care needs, Somerset Medical Center recently completed the largest construction project in its history.
Expansion Project Components
New Emergency Department
Our new 40,000-square-foot Emergency Department can accommodate up to 60,000 patients a year. The new facility alleviates overcrowding, improves privacy and offers a spacious, comfortable waiting area. It includes designated treatment areas for pediatric emergencies and orthopedic injuries, as well as onsite radiology equipment.
Expanded Surgical Services
- The addition of seven new operating suites brings the total to 18. The
suites feature digital cameras and the latest audio-visual technologies used
for laparoscopic surgeries.
- Renovations also are under way on the medical center's Same Day Center that will double its size to 13,000
square feet. The center will feature 26 private patient rooms and an expanded,
more comfortable waiting area for loved ones.
- The Gastroenterology (GI) Center is undergoing
physical improvements to enhance patient care. The center is one of the
largest in New Jersey, offering diagnostic and therapeutic services for a wide
range of digestive disorders.
- Post-surgical patients who require an overnight stay are cared for in the new John and Mary Obzansky Surgical Pavilion . The 35-bed inpatient unit includes hotel-caliber rooms and amenities such as flat-screen televisions, DVD players and sleeper sofas. The unit is named in honor of a Somerville couple who donated generously to Somerset Medical Center Foundation's 'Breaking New Ground' capital campaign.
Enhanced Cancer Care
Increased Parking
A new five-level, 596-space parking garage, and two additional levels on the existing patient and visitor parking deck provides more onsite parking for our growing numbers of patients and visitors.
