Area Emergency Responders Honored at Annual EMS Week Dinner

Every hour of every day, 365 days a year, they respond. Emergency workers are there to answer the call for help, offering the prompt, expert medical treatment that often makes the difference between life and death.
In recognition of their life-saving efforts, Somerset Medical Center recently presented outstanding service awards to members of area rescue squads at its annual Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week Dinner. The recipients were nominated by their respective rescue squads.
Award recipients were:

� Steve Weinman, Somerville Rescue Squad
� Lisa Keve, Warren Township Rescue Squad
� Gregg Aleo, Ortho McNeil Pharmaceutical First Aid Squad
� PJ Messineo, Montgomery Emergency Medical Services
� David Quigley, Hillsborough Rescue Squad
� Marylyn Kampo, East Millstone First Aid Squad
� Naomi Shimalla, East Millstone First Aid Squad
� Robert Hanlon, Bradley Gardens First Aid & Rescue Squad
Area rescue squad members voted Raritan resident Robert Mauillo, a paramedic in Somerset Medical Center�s Emergency Medical Service Department, as Paramedic of the Year. In addition, Willie Martin, a Manville resident and member of the Bound Brook Rescue Squad, was honored for his 22 years of service as a volunteer in Somerset Medical Center�s Emergency Department.
Two awards from New Jersey Association of Paramedic Programs were also announced at the EMS Week Dinner. Mike Seyler, of Somerville, and Jim Smith, of Whitehaven, Pa., who are paramedics at Somerset Medical Center, received team excellence awards voted on by their colleagues.
Somerset Medical Center�s Emergency Medical Services Department is the primary advanced life support provider to most of Somerset County and also provides secondary coverage to portions of Hunterdon, Middlesex, Mercer and Morris counties. The medical center�s two Mobile Intensive Care Units (MICU) respond to over 6,000 emergency calls each year. Through a unique partnership with its neighboring communities, the medical center also supports the local volunteer rescue squads and provides primary basic life support services to Manville and Raritan as well as back-up basic life support services to South Bound Brook and Bridgewater residents during daytime hours Monday through Friday. In addition, the Emergency Medical Services Department offers a variety of community, EMS and corporate education training programs including first aid and CPR classes.
